I wanted to match a shaving soap that was really nourishing to the skin. This recipe not only has bentonite clay (for the slip, while shaving), it also includes colloidal oatmeal (which is just oatmeal that has been ground to a fine powder), and calendula-infused olive oil. I will talk about calendula in my next post.
For a 1 lb batch
8 oz Olive Oil (Pomace) infused with Calendula petals
2.4 oz Coconut Oil
2.4 oz Grapeseed Oil
3.2 oz Vegetable Shortening
1 TBSP Juniper Berries
2 tsp Bentonite Clay
2.5 tsp Colloidal Oatmeal
Pine E.O., Eucalytus E.O., Tea Tree Oil E.O. (Some nice manly scents!)
Gathering ingredients
Melting the oils together
Infusing juniper berries
Measuring colloidal oatmeal
Measuring bentonite clay
All melted and ready to mix with lye
Getting lye mixture ready
Mixing up soap
Mixing a little bit of soap with clay and oatmeal
(this ensures it will mix evenly without over-mixing the whole batch)
Essential oils were added and the soap was poured into molds with a little Calendula for decoration.
A couple days later...
